Ireland’s oldest citizen, Nora Canavan, from Doolin, Co Clare, has died at the age of 108.

The mother of seven celebrated her 108th birthday last March.

Nora was a grandmother of 10, a great-grandmother of eight and great-great-grandmother of two.

She was known throughout the area for her age, her faith and her handcraft skills, which included knitting.

“Nora was full of gratitude to God for her many years of faith, family and friendship. She was . . . an outstandingly supportive and encouraging parishioner.”

She will be laid to rest following funeral Mass on Friday, July 22nd, at the Holy Rosary church in Doolin at 12 pm.
