Ireland map 2

Ireland is a country steeped in history, myth and mystery. Every rock, tree or mile of coastline seems to carry a legend or story from ancient times.

It has been described as ‘The Green and Misty Isle’ with areas of breathtaking beauty such as the Lakes of Killarney, Connemara, the Dingle Peninsula, the rich fertile landscape and the picturesque tapestry of  beguiling lakes and rivers.

Ireland has a treasure trove of ancient monuments that dot the countryside, displaying a rich history and culture such as the Hill of Tara and Newgrange, which are older than the pyramids of Egypt.

But the big feature of Ireland is the warmth and friendliness of the people. They are renowned world-wide for their laid-back disposition, their infectious smiles and their addiction to sport, music, song and dance. They are also known to fancy a bit of lively chat and banter over a pint of Guinness in the intimacy of a small and unique Irish Pub.

My books 8

A novel about life in Ireland fifty years ago. A memoir of growing up in Ireland three generations ago. A charming glimpse of life in the old Ireland of the forties and fifties.

A perfect little gem.

I just wanted to go on reading about this lovely family. A great little gem capturing the life and times of Ireland in the 1950’s. I just couldn’t put it down and felt I was right in there with all those people. Knowing their every day ups and downs and the neighbours who died and how they dealt with their grief. I have seen and been to such wakes and funerals. Perfectly captured and so well written in the way people spoke back then, in their own imitable charming way. Good decent people who were always on hand to help a neighbour. A story well worth reading.
