Mother
Oversized and cuddly
Shape was not her care,
No style or fancy fashion,
Or colour for her hair.
But deep inside was a huge volcano
A reservoir of gold
Erupting with gushes of endless love
To share with young and old.
Tireless and determined
Discarding rest and play
Responding to our every need
Was all that filled her day.
But also there for a lowly soul
Calling to her door.
In giving you get, was her belief
And she proved it more and more.
Weary but contented
With nothing left undone
She answered Heaven’s calling
Her health and strength were gone.
We cherish our dear mother
As we navigate each day
Through life without her steady hand
To guide us on our way.

What a lovely poem Paddy. Your gentle heart and loving words are a reflection of your mother. Her gentle heart and strength defined who you are today. I love your writing, your words are from the soul. exactly the kind of books I enjoy to read. I have several books of yours, and eventually will get them all in hard cover. Your words strike something deep within us, showing humility, pride, humanity and love of family. Thanks for sharing this lovely poem.
Truly Petra, words fail me – for once. I really don’t deserve those inspiring words. But coming from a gifted writer as you I accept them as a sincere compliment to which I am eternally grateful. I am emotional at the best of times – you have now given me the beautiful feeling of an emotional wreck. Heartfelt thanks, Petra !!!
